Ever wanted a car that could drive itself?

Ever watched "The Jetsons" or sat in traffic and thought, "I wish my car could drive itself." Well, we're only about 10-15 years away from that. General Motors has designed a pod car that will drive itself using GPS from smartphones, and even park itself.

There's just one problem - GPS technology hasn't caught up with the GM technology, so we'll all have to wait a while. But once it's ready for production, it will be used at colleges, gated communities and "megacities" that are overpopulated and filled with pollution. And eventually, cities will have car sharing, sort of like the bicycle sharing big cities do, where you can check out a car and check it back in at another destination.

What do you think about it?

Team Auto Group remodeling

At Team Auto Group we care a lot about our customers. We love them, actually, and that's why we're remodeling the waiting and service area. The waiting area will be remarkably larger, accommodating the large crowds waiting on their excellent service from Team Auto Group's excellent employees. Our service manager, Chris Jennings, is getting a new office, and there will also be a small retail area.

The remodeling began Monday, and is moving right along. Walls have been knocked down, and Chris Jennings' office is almost complete.

For now, our customers will have to wait in the showroom and listen to our incredible dealership playlist.

Dear Chevrolet,

If the Chevrolet fairy were to tell me I could have any car on the lot, for free, I know exactly which one I'd pick - the Chevrolet Cruze. What a beautiful car. And the gas mileage? I can't believe it! The Cruze gets around 26 miles a gallon in city, and at least 36 on the highway!

Not only is the Cruze great on gas mileage, it's great on the eyes. The sleek outside goes great with the interior, which is really sharp. My favorite is the "medium titanium" tan color. I love the XM radio, too. And I love knowing that when I'm driving, I have airbags all around me, keeping myself and my passengers safe.

When I saw the car online, I didn't think much of it... just another sedan. But when I saw it in person and drove it, I fell in love. It's so hip and comfortable, and fun to drive.

So, if there is a Chevrolet fairy, let he/she know this is the one for me.

Team Auto Group employs two Workforce Investment Act youth this summer

SALISBURY – Last fall Cynthia McLean was struggling in school, three grades behind her peers. Unsure of how she’d catch up, she decided to withdraw from Salisbury High School.
But in May she walked across the stage at Rowan Cabarrus Community College and received her GED.
“I can’t explain it,” Cynthia, 17, said of the feeling inside of her as she walked across the stage. “Everybody was happy. All of my family was there and everything. I was just like, ‘I did it!’”
Tyree Badger is 18 years old, and will take his final test today (Thursday) to determine whether or not he’ll receive his GED next week.
Tyree said he dropped out of Henderson Independent High School last fall after unwanted attention at the school, but was determined to finish school and earn his GED. His older brother participated in the program, and wanted give it a try himself.
Cynthia and Tyree were able to get their GED through the Workforce Investment Act program (WIA) Youth Program, which is a program offered by the federal government through Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency, Inc.
Not only do Cynthia and Tyree work this summer at Team Auto Group for the Summer Youth Employment program, but they’ve been reading several books and attending workshops, including a recent workshop in Orlando - Disney’s Leadership in Excellence Workshop - where they received customer service training and tips from Disney employees, and attended several workshops on business and entrepreneurship.
And after they enroll in college this fall and earn 15 credit hours, they both hope to join the U.S. Air Force.
Cynthia wants to be a military police officer while Tyree wants to learn about computers.
Cynthia said she’s always been interested in becoming a law enforcement officer, and hopes to one day become an air marshal.
“I’ve been wanting to go into the military basically all my life,” Cynthia said. “I love their uniforms, the stuff they do, just everything. It’s basically going to be my career. I don’t plan on doing anything else.
Tyree wants to take his love for computers and mix it with his love for music.
“I want to branch off and make my own small business,” he said. “I might want to make a studio for my music.”
Cynthia and Tyree are two of 10 students enrolled in the WIA program this summer, where students are working at businesses in Rowan and Cabarrus counties. The summer employment is part of the WIA program, and students not only receive a paycheck, but learn business skills and life lessons.
Cynthia has been trying her hand at being a receptionist for the dealership, while Tyree has been a jack of all trades, working in the showroom, service department, and doing things on the car lot.
“This job has taught me responsibility,” Tyree said. “It teaches me how to work in the real life and how to budget my own money.
“I’ve learned a lot of skills from checking tire tread to customer service and interacting with people.”
Cynthia says her job – receptionist – is the hardest of them all.
“I feel like they’re the most hard-worked here,” she said. “I’ve learned how to run credit cards, give out checks and tags, and customer service and computer skills.”
A WIA success story, Roge Givens, is now an employee at Team Auto Group, and a role model to Cynthia and Tyree.
“I know from experience that the WIA program is a program of opportunity,” Givens said. “After high school didn’t work out for me the WIA program took me in. They helped me stay out of trouble and see life in different perspective.”
Aside from Cynthia and Tyree’s teachers and directors at Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency and Team Auto Group, they both say their mothers have been their biggest fans through their year in the WIA program.
“My mom is basically my main supporter,” Cynthia said. “She loves that I’m actually wanting to do something with my life. She told me to stay in the program and go ahead to school and stick to my dreams.”
Tyree’s mother has given him the extra push to keep going, he said.
“She’s been supportive, and said to keep going until you get it,” he said. “And said that when you get it, strive for more.”
Business liaison for the WIA program, Almond Miller, has traveled to the different workshops with the students, and said the entire staff helps shape the at-risk youth into mature and responsible adults.
“They’ve learned how to be self sufficient and be leaders,” Miller said. And at the same time, she said, the students have “obtained a job and learned financial literacy while also being good students and learning the foundations of the academia world.”
“We know that they walk away with higher self esteem than when they came,” she said. “These aren’t bad kids, they just needed people to believe in them. It’s a really rewarding job.”

How to take care of your car in the HEAT!

It's hot outside, and not only do you have to take extra care of yourself, you need to keep a close watch on your vehicle to ensure it doesn't get neglected after being exposed to the hazardous heat outside.
The following are some tips from Team Auto Group to keep your vehicle healthy during the heat:
- Check the coolant/anti-freeze and make sure the level is just right. Coolant should be changed every five years, and you can also look at the coolant tank to make sure you have enough. Too little or too much could have an effect on your car.
- Hot weather can take a toll on your car battery. At Team Auto Group you can stop by and have a free battery test, and they'll mmake sure your battery fluids are at the right level.
- Change your oil. Team Auto Group can do that for you!
- Check your tire pressure to make sure they're inflated enough before you take off on the hot pavement. Come by Team Auto Group and we can do that for free. Look for bubbles, worn tread and other weak spots. At Team Auto Group you can get your tires filled with nitrogen for $24.95, which increases the life of your tires and gives you better gas mileage.
- Wax your car once every three months to take care of the paint. Polish the vinyl interior, also, to keep it from fading.
- Windshield wipers are about $20 for a set here at Team Auto Group. The heat increases the chances the wipers will crack, so get them replaced for your safety during the summer thunderstorms.
Call Team Auto Group, 704-216-8000, to schedule any maintenance from our service department.
