Halloween Team Scream Contest and Fall Festival a success!

Well, the First Annual Halloween TEAM Scream Contest and Fall Festival was Saturday here at Team Auto Group, and we didn't know what to expect since the weather was pretty awful. The rain had stopped that morning, leaving puddles around the lot, and it was freezing. But people came, and were there right at 10 a.m., with the rest of the crew scrambling around to get things ready. But things magically came together, and volunteers kept pouring in throughout the day.

Twelve people participated in the Scream Contest, and the winner for the girls, Aniya Simmons, 9, practiced Friday night for the contest, she said, and was the first to sign up Saturday morning. She even sacrificed getting to a birthday party on time for the contest... but it was worth it, she said. Her mother, Sheree Forbes, won the women's category.

Steppin' Out Dance Company also had around 50 girls perform several Halloween dances, and Megan Braun, Junior Elite Miss North Carolina, sang a few songs to warm up the crowd.

The pie throwing brought the most participants, and raised more than $50 alone for the United Way. Rowan County Sheriff Kevin Auten and Salisbury Police Chief Rory Collins were dressed in orange inmate clothing, teasing those throwing the pies. We offered to let them take a walk through our car wash, but they declined. They had a lot of fun, and it was definitely the highlight of Saturday's event.

The hot dogs were almost completely gone (240 of them), so I'd say we had a pretty good turnout at the festival.

Bob Pendergrass from Dan Nicholas Park was very busy showing off two snakes, a tarantula and a blue-tongued skink. The Rowan County Sheriff's Office brought a Chevrolet Caprice, and the Salisbury Fire Department brought a fire truck and the smoke house. The petting zoo from Clippity Clop To You brought with them ducks, a mini horse, goats, chickens and rabbits, and Kristina from Face Painting Party Girls didn't get a break from the line of children waiting to have their faces transformed to beautiful butterflies or scary monsters. 99.7 FM The Fox was also there doing a live broadcast from the lot.

A big special thanks go to all of our volunteers:
- Salisbury High School Air Force JROTC
- Rowan County Sheriff's Explorers
- Boy Scouts of Rowan County
- J.F. Hurley YMCA
- Rory Collins and Kevin Auten

Without the volunteers we couldn't have had the event.

We ended up raising just under $500 for the United Way of Rowan County and hope that next year we can at least double the amount.

Here's a video filled with the performances, scream contest, pie throwing and games at the festival. There are also several photos at the end of the video. Enjoy!

Well, we not only met last year's donation to the United Way, but gathered up more than 10 times that amount! And it's still not over. This weekend's event should be a great fundraiser, too! Yay, Team Auto Group!

Flag football and soccer teams sponsored by Team Auto Group

GM dealerships across the country are giving back to their communities in big ways - sponsoring football or soccer teams in their towns, and even going to to the Saturday morning games to show their support for the players and their families.

Team Auto Group in Salisbury is proud to sponsor the flag football and soccer teams for the J.F. Hurley YMCA of Salisbury. We have been working closely with Phil Hilliard, the sports director for the YMCA. He's been a big help in coordinating Team Auto Group to be at the fields on Saturdays, and even brought a few teams to the dealership for photos.

We'll be out there again this weekend with a GMC Terrain or Chevrolet Cruze, and will be having drawings for reusable tote bags and stadium seats.

Here are some photos from the games and the visits to the dealership.

I drove the Chevy Volt!

This past weekend we took the Chevrolet Volt at the Kiwanis pancake breakfast outside the J.F. Hurley YMCA. I'm no car salesman, but I urged curious children, teenagers and adults to get inside, put their foot on the brake, and press the "on" button that turned on the car. Those brave enough to venture into the Volt were glad they did.

Their faces lit up and they were hypnotized by the computer screens around them, with icons swirling around. And they couldn't believe there was no engine noise. They didn't believe me when I said the car was running. The loved the swooshing futuristic noise the Volt made when being turned on or off. And they enjoyed exploring the touch screen and touching the icons on the dash.

And when the breakfast was over, I got to drive the Volt back to the dealership - Team Auto Group. I was nervous for several reasons, mainly because it was brand new, but also because it made no noise. I was scared I was doing something wrong, but I wasn't... it's really just that quiet of a car.

The Volt might be a little pricey, but it charges for only $1 a day, and the charge gets you 379 miles down the road before you need another charge. If you spend $50 a week in gas, that's $2,600 you spend on gas every year. Getting gas to the United States and then the emissions released from our cars are far more expensive to our environment than our pocketbook. The Volt is emission-free.

Here's a video I did of the Volt starting up and shutting down. I didn't have a chance to video the Volt in action going down the road, but hopefully will soon. We've had the Volt for about a week and it's already sold and gone. A good sign for GM and the environment.

The Chevy Volt is here!!!!

Wow, seeing the Volt online or television is no comparison to sitting behind the wheel. Team Auto Group got the Volt in Wednesday (Oct. 5) and has already gotten a lot of attention around town. Today I found out why.

I got behind the wheel of the Volt, placed the key in the cup holder, pushed in the green "On" button, and thought I was behind the wheel of a spaceship. A fun and futuristic sound resonated throughout the car as I turned on the engine (with the push of the button), and the dash lit up. Icons swirled around the dash as I turned the car off, too.

I didn't get the chance to drive it today, but will on Friday or Saturday, and I can't wait. Check back for updates on my driving experience in the Chevrolet Volt!

Congrats, Megan!

Megan stopped by Team Auto Group last week and purchased a 2006 Pontiac Torrent. Her family was supposed to take it camping over the weekend, and we hope they had a lot of fun. The Torrent is perfect for camping or road trips. Welcome to the Team Auto Group family, Megan! We hope you enjoy your new car!

Joe excited about his Buick Lacrosse!

Joe came by Team Auto Group last week and purchased a 2011 Buick LaCrosse, fully loaded, and this isn't his first trip to the dealership. Joe, of Salisbury, traded in his Buick Lucerne for his new ride, and was really happy to drive it off the lot. Congratulations, Joe!
